Before you start the measurements it is important to make sure that you have not just finished an intensive training, drunk a lot of water or had a relaxation in sauna or on the sunny beach. When you feel hot your fingers tend to swell, thus the ring you choose may be too big the next day.
Every finger is unique! Consider that the size of each finger may differ dramatically, so whenever you choose one of three measurement methods, make sure that you do it for the exact finger on a particular hand.
Three easy ways to measure the size of the ring:
- Paper and Pencil Method: Take the ring you already have, put it on a piece of paper and draw an internal circle as close to the border as you can. Then measure the diameter of the circle with a ruler. If the circle is not even, measure it from different angles and take average. The result you get is the size of the ring that you should order.
- Dental Floss Method: If you don’t have a ring, take a dental floss, and put it around your finger with some space to let it pass tightly over the joint between the phalanges of the finger. Measure the length of the floss and divide the result by 3.14. Here you go, the result is the size that you should order.
- Mark own finger Method: If you would like to order a ring for someone special, put it on your own finger of a bigger size and mark the place where if got stuck. Then go to the jewelry store to determine the size by the ring gauge. This is a perfect option to guess the size of engagement ring if she wears it on a ring finger. Otherwise, ask her mother or her best friend, they will gladly help you.
Please note that the wider the shank of the ring, the tighter it fits the finger. For example, if you have a finger size of 17.0, then a wedding ring with a width of 3-4 mm will fit you well, but a ring with a width of 6-7 mm will be too small.
